Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM) records your blood pressure at regular intervals over a full 24-hour period. A small, portable monitor is fitted with a cuff around the upper arm and programmed to take readings while you go about your normal day and during sleep. You should carry on with usual activities, avoid heavy lifting, and return the device the next day. The continuous data provides a fuller picture than single clinic readings, helping detect white-coat effects, masked hypertension, and night-time blood pressure patterns. Results are reviewed and summarised for your GP.
